Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin admits that if he played for a bigger club he would potentially be further up in the reckoning for selection into the France squad. However, he insists he has no regrets about turning out for the Saints.

Schneiderlin has excelled with Southampton in the Premier League this season, helping the club defy predictions and currently the club sit a lofty third in the standings.

And while his performances with Southampton are uppermost in his thoughts, Schneiderlin admits breaking into the France squad does dominate his thinking to some extent.

"That's my number 1 goal. This is why I work and try to put in the best possible performances", he told RMC.

"This has been my dream since childhood, to represent my country at the highest level.

"I give my all and I'll try to keep going to not have any regrets at the end of the season. We'll see what happens."

Schneiderlin admits though that if he turned out for a higher profile club the likelihood of him being selected would, he feels, be higher.

"If I played for a bigger club it is possible that my name would be seen.

"But [Southampton] are third and ranked higher than Manchester City and Manchester United, so I have no regrets."
