Inter Milan will be ready to give ex-striker Mauricio Pinilla a comeback chance this winter, when a move for Pablo Osvaldo is less likely.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter will be looking to bolster their strike options, especially with a few injuries up front, and Cagliari's Pinilla is on the table.

Diego Milito and Mauro Icardi are sidelined at the moment, though an ideal solution for manager Walter Mazzarri would be to sign Osvaldo, who moved to Southampton this summer.

While it is not clear if Southampton will allow a move, it is looking likely that a bolder approach from Inter will present itself next summer, as Pinilla becomes a favoured option now.

The 29-year-old has turned out for several clubs in his career, including Inter in 2003/04 and Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

It is understood that Mazzarri had been looking to sign Pinilla in the summer of 2009 when he was manager at Napoli.

Mazzarri's wish could yet come true this winter, with Pinilla's contract running out in 2015 and Inter keen for a quickfire solution to their strike woes.

Pinilla has so far made 10 appearances in the Serie A this season, with two goals.
