England have suffered a blow with defender Phil Jones set to miss Tuesday's friendly against Germany.

The Manchester United defender-cum-midfielder suffered a groin injury in Friday night's 2-0 loss at Wembley against Chile.

That means the 21-year-old, who was withdrawn just before the hour mark at Wembley, will not play against Germany in what has become a vital friendly for England as they seek to bounce back.

Jones had a scan on the injury earlier today and as a result has returned to Manchester United.

England are now sweating on the fitness of captain Steven Gerrard, defender Kyle Walker and striker Rickie Lambert.

The trio are due to be assessed when England's players report back for training tomorrow.
