Italy and Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo believes it would only be "fair" if Franck Ribery won this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or.

Pirlo is on the 23-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, but is not seen as a frontrunner, with that tag going to Ribery, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It remains to be seen who will grab the prestigious accolade at the FIFA gala on 13th January in Zurich.

But Pirlo favours Bayern Munich winger Ribery getting his hands on the famous award, especially in view of the Bavarians winning a Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League treble last season.

"I think it's Ribery [who should win]", Pirlo told Rai Sport.

"He won everything there is to win with his club and it would only be fair that he won", the 34-year-old added.

While Ribery may bag the Ballon d'Or, he could end up missing out on competing in the 2014 World Cup, with France losing the first leg of their playoff tie against the Ukraine 2-0.
