Chelsea midfielder Oscar came close to linking up with Jose Mourinho 12 months before it actually happened, as it emerged a move to Real Madrid had been close last year.

Oscar signed for Chelsea after the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he represented Brazil, and Mourinho arrived this summer for his second stint with the Blues.

However, it is now known that Mourinho had wanted to sign Oscar at the same time as Chelsea did, and that the Brazilian was being keenly followed.

Oscar has scored four goals in 11 Premier League games for Mourinho and told Globoesporte: "[Real Madrid] came to me in the game against Denmark.
