Portugal legend Pauleta believes Cristiano Ronaldo has what it takes to eventually become the country's record goalscorer, adding the Los Blancos star is "extraordinary".

Pauleta currently holds the record of having scored the most goals for Portugal, a total of 47 goals in his nine-year international career.

Ronaldo's goal record for Portugal, meanwhile, currently stands at 44. Pauleta, however, has no doubt the former Manchester United star will have no difficulty surpassing his record.

"I can definitely see him beating my record", Pauleta told Spanish daily Marca.

"I'm glad for him and also for the fact that Portugal have a player of his calibre. Of course, I've been proud of my record all these years, but soon, I won't be able to brag about it anymore", the Portuguese legend added.

Ronaldo has been in blistering form for club and country this season, having scored 25 goals in 18 competitive matches so far, and Pauleta believes such a tally is testament to the winger's unbelievable ability on the pitch.

"Cristiano is highly rated throughout the footballing world, and he deserves the adulation for his goals, his attitude and his work rate in every game he plays in.

"His quality as a footballer is extraordinary", Pauleta concluded.
