PSV Eindhoven insist there have been no approaches for Ola Toivonen, despite the midfielder indicating he wanted to leave in the winter transfer window.

Toivonen's contract renewal saga took a twist with the Swede doubting PSV would come good on their promises, this after Brands revealed conversations had been "positive" earlier this month.

Toivonen's agent Mino Raiola has been a leading figure in negotiations which were expected to yield a year's extension, but the player himself has his doubts.

But despite the apparent desire to leave in January, Brands today told De Telegraaf: "Currently we have had no contact with any club about a transfer for Ola in January.

"We want to provide clarity as soon as possible, but we will not say whether that's tomorrow or the day after. We want to keep it a little quiet."

When asked if Toivonen's winter transfer declaration came as a surprise, Brands added: "If Ola did not have doubts [on the contract renewal], he would have already re-signed in August.

"Apparently that's something that's been growing in Ola. This is not to say that it is the best scenario for PSV. Our first scenario is a contract extension."

Toivonen was once close to signing for Premier League side Norwich City, but dropped the deal at the last moment in hopes of finding a bigger club.
