Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side showed against Southampton at the weekend that they are ready to fight for this season's Premier League title.

The Gunners beat the Saints 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, despite the visitors putting up a real fight and enjoying some encouraging passages of play.

Wenger was pleased with his side's reaction against the high-flying Saints.

"This win shows we are ready for a fight when it didn't go as fluently as we wanted", the Arsenal manager told his club's official site.

"That is the most pleasing thing. We were tested by being challenged for every single ball and we responded quite well.

"We always had the focus and I could never feel that we eased off. They made it very difficult for us.

"We could see a good togetherness to help each other out. We knew that we were sometimes in trouble and you felt that they were ready to fight for each other."
