La Liga giants Valencia have appointed former winger Francisco Rufete as their new sporting general manager.

Rufete represented Valencia as a player between 2001 and 2006, while he also enjoyed notable spells with Barcelona B, Malaga and Espanyol, as well as winning three senior caps for Spain.

The 37-year-old retired in 2011 and is now in a position of power at one of his old clubs.

But Rufete joins a Los Che side struggling this season.
