Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby has apologised to the club's fans for the side's 6-0 drubbing by Manchester City on Sunday.

Spurs were never in the Premier League clash and saw themselves 5-0 down by the 55th minute; the Citizens eventually scored their sixth at the end of the game.

The heavy defeat saw the total number of goals Spurs have conceded in the Premier League this season doubled.

Holtby wrote on his Facebook page: "Still hard to take.

"Definitely couldn't sleep yesterday. Probably the worst defeat in my life.

"Sorry to all of you Lilywhites.

"We have to show character now and bounce back from it!

"It ain't over till it's over.."

Next up for Tottenham is a return to Europa League action with Norwegian outfit Tromso set to provide the opposition. After that there is no let up in the big games, with a visit from Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
