Ex-Manchester United defender Denis Irwin is full of admiration for Ryan Giggs, explaining that despite the fact the Welshman does not play regularly for the Red Devils, he still has to undertake the same work as the rest of the squad.

Giggs is 40 years old today, yet still remains an important player for the English champions and made his 953rd appearance for the club in midweek Champions League action against Bayer Leverkusen, a game Manchester United won 5-0.

The winger-turned-midfield-schemer is still going strong and showing no sign of being ready to hang up his boots yet.

And Irwin, who played with Giggs at Old Trafford for 12 years, is immensely impressed with his former team-mate.

"I know Ryan probably doesn't play as many games as he would like but you still have to train the same way", Irwin said via FIFA.

"You can't lighten the workload. You need to do exactly the same to show that you can go the pace of the Premier League.

"For him to continue for the past six or seven years, play the amount of games he has and win all those trophies at the very top level is unbelievable."
