West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has hailed his side's 3-0 victory over Fulham as "a big win" as the Hammers piled further pressure on under-pressure Cottagers manager Martin Jol.

Both teams went in at 0-0 at half-time with Jol hopeful of ending Fulham's four-game Premier League losing run. But second half goals from Mohamed Diame (47th minute), Carlton Cole (82nd minute) and Joe Cole (88th minute), put the visitors to the sword.

For West Ham, who had only taken ten points from 12 games and suffered a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea in their last match, the victory was instantly saluted as crucial by Allardyce.

"It was a big win for us", Allardyce was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"The pressure is always on when you don't get results and slide towards the bottom three.

"When you come up against your nearest rivals in the table, with both sides on 10 points, it is a six-pointer so putting three points between us and Fulham is obviously a very healthy situation for us.

"I always believed if we created chances we would score goals and we did that today."

The win moves West Ham up to 15th in the Premier League standings, while Fulham have now lost their last five consecutive Premier League games placing a big question mark over Jol's future.
