Brendan Rodgers has lamented a missed opportunity for Liverpool to kick off their December run of games in positive fashion after going down to a 3-1 Premier League defeat against Hull City.

Liverpool went behind to a Jake Livermore shot in the 20th minute, it deflecting off Reds defender Martin Skrtel and into the net.

But Liverpool equalised when Steven Gerrard slotted home a free-kick just seven minutes later, with both sides then going in level at half-time.

In the second period two goals from Hull, David Meyler taking advantage of poor defending with 72 minutes on the clock and then Skrtel heading in an own goal in the 87th minute, put Liverpool to the sword and handed the Tigers their first ever win over the Reds.

And with a tough December ahead, Rodgers knows defeat at Hull is the worst possible start.

"It was very disappointing", he said via his club's official site.

"I thought this was an opportunity for us to begin the week well.

"Hull came in on the back of losing at home and we arrived into the game with confidence and belief. But we made too many mistakes, with and without the ball, and overall it was very disappointing.

"I just thought we lacked quality. With the ball we just didn't create enough and we didn't keep the ball long enough in order to move them about."

Liverpool now face a glut of tough games in December, including trips to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea. More imminently however they welcome Norwich to Anfield on Wednesday.
