Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that the club have parted ways with manager Dave Jones after their disastrous start to the current campaign.

The Owls have managed to acquire just 11 points from 16 matches this season which sees the club in 23rd place in the Championship table.

The Hillsborough outfit lost their last league game 2-0 against Blackpool on Saturday, which was Jones’ final game in charge of Wednesday.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Dave Jones has been relieved of his duties as first team manager with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Dave for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future.

“Sheffield Wednesday will be making no further comment at this time.”

Jones replaced Gary Megson as Sheffield Wednesday boss in March 2012 and helped the Owls secure promotion from League One to the Championship that season.

The Englishman, who was a defender in his playing days, has previously managed Stockport County, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City.
