Schalke want to sign Lukasz Fabianski from Arsenal in a bid to solve their goalkeeping issue.

The Bundesliga side are hunting a new number 1 after losing faith with Timo Hildebrand, who has conceded 24 goals in 12 German top flight matches so far and sees his deal at the club expire next summer.

The Ruhr giants have been linked with Real Madrid custodian Iker Casillas, but Fabianski, who is playing second fiddle at Arsenal to countryman Wojciech Szczesny, may be a more realistic target.

And according to Polish daily Fakt, Schalke are ready to move to bring Fabianski to the club in the quickly approaching January transfer window.

Fabianski is thought to favour leaving Arsenal due to a lack of first team football and sees his own contract expire next summer, placing him in a strong position to dictate his future.

The 28-year-old has only made two appearances for the Gunners in the current campaign, both coming in the League Cup.

And with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger a firm fan of Poland rival Szczesny, Fabianski is believed to not expect his situation to change.
