Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi has stressed the importance of staying focused ahead of his side's derby clash against West Bromwich Albion tomorrow night.

The Moroccan international feels elated by the buzz and excitement created around the match, but has insisted that the players should not at any stage lose their concentration during the course of the 90 minutes.

"The derby games are exciting for the fans. It's the same for the players. They are always nice occasions to look forward to", El Ahmadi told his club's official website.

"For the team and the club, obviously it's an important game. It means a lot.

"There's always a special atmosphere and there's something different in the air."

The midfielder however added that once the whistle blows, his team-mates must be right on song from the first minute and not give an inch to their Albion opponents.

"But when the whistle blows, focus and concentration is key.

"You have to be switched on and do your job. That obviously gives you the best chance of winning the game.

"It's a great occasion, no doubt about it. But the most vital thing is the three points."

Aston Villa are currently placed tenth in the Premier League with 24 points, just one point ahead of Hull City, placed 11th.
