Leeds United have issued a statement insisting that Brian McDermott remains the manager of the club.

It had been widely reported that McDermott had been sacked as Leeds boss last night, with even striker Ross McCormack claiming to have spoken to the former Reading manager and learned of his removal from his post.

Leeds thrashed Huddersfield earlier today, running out 5-1 winners as McCormack hat-trick helped the side claim a Championship win.

And the Yorkshire giants have issued a statement, announcing via their official site: "The club would like to make it clear that Brian McDermott remains our first team manager.

"He has not been dismissed from his post as has been suggested and we look forward to him continuing in his role with us in taking Leeds United forwards."

McDermott did not lead Leeds during the Huddersfield game and was advised to stay away from Elland Road after taking legal advice.
