West Ham boss Sam Allardyce believes he may have picked up two difference-makers in Marco Borriello and Antonio Nocerino, who both joined the club on loan last month.

Allardyce brought the pair off the bench in West Ham's 2-0 win away at Aston Villa earlier today, and was impressed with their contribution.

Two goals from Kevin Nolan won the match for the Hammers, but beyond the three points, Allardyce singled out Borriello and Nocerino for praise.

"I think the arrival of the two Italians helped", he told his club's site.

"If you get the right service to Marco Borriello, I think we've got a talented player on our hands", the West Ham boss added.

Allardyce also saluted his side's defence for their display at Villa Park, with the hosts kept quiet and a clean sheet earned.

"We got another clean sheet, which was great for the defensive back line that coped with all the long balls Villa pumped down the middle in the second half.

"We defended superbly well."
