Bert van Marwijk's immediate future as Hamburg coach may not be as secure as the club have claimed.

The club's board met at the weekend to consider the Dutchman position after Hamburg slumped to second-bottom in the Bundesliga table with relegation now a serious possibility for the northern German outfit.

However, according to reports in Germany, there is some disagreement on the Hamburg board and backing for the coach is not as unanimous as had been believed.

Indeed, there is strong support from major investor Klaus-Michael Kuhne for appointing Felix Magath.

Kuhne would like to see Magath appointed both as coach and sporting director, something would hand the former Bayern Munich man huge power within the club.

Hamburg, who have collected only 16 points from 20 Bundesliga games this term, are next in action tomorrow in the German Cup against Bayern Munich.

Bundesliga duty is resumed at the weekend, with a crucial trip to bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig.
