Schalke's injury woes have worsened with news that Atsuto Uchida will miss two weeks with a muscle tear.

The Royal Blues are already without the services of captain Benedikt Howedes, who will miss the Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

And Uchida will join Howedes on the treatment table, with his expected return set at late February.

The Japan international's injury came in Schalke's weekend victory over Hannover, though he did complete the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win.

Schalke are due to meet Real Madrid in the first knockout round of the Champions League on 26th February, the first leg of which takes place in Germany.

Right-back Uchida has been a consistent presence for Schalke this season with 17 appearances in the Bundesliga.

He even notched his only goal of the season so far in the Champions League group opener against Steaua Bucharest.
