Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged his side to hit the 40-point mark in the Premier League as soon as possible.

The Villains, who thrashed Norwich City 4-1 in their last league outing on 2nd March, are currently 11th in the standings with 31 points from 28 games.

And with 40 points being considered a safe bet to remain in the Premier League in recent years, Agbonlahor wants Villa to reach that mark soon.

"We're on 31 points at the moment – not 40”, the 27-year-old told his club’s official site.

"We have to keep on getting the results as early as possible and not leave it late.

"We want to pull away a bit more and try to get to that 40 point mark as quickly as we can."

Agbonlahor, who added that his side are confident about reaching the 40-point mark, further heaped praise on Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert.

"We are confident – and the gaffer gives us the confidence”, he added.

"His instructions are always to go out and play freely. He gives us an attacking incentive. That came off against Norwich. Now we want to continue to do it."

Aston Villa, who have won eight Premier League games this season, will next play league leaders Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday before welcoming Stoke City to the ground eight days later.
