French striker Nicolas Anelka has announced the termination of his contract with English Premier League club West Brom.
Anelka, who was recently slapped with a five-match ban and £80,000 fine for celebrating a goal with a quenelle gesture, took to his Twitter account to relay the news.

The striker had been unhappy with the punishment imposed upon him for his celebration following a goal against West Ham on 28th December.
Anelka said: "Following discussions between the club and me, proposals have been made that I rejoin the squad under certain conditions that I cannot accept.

"I wish to keep my integrity, so I decided to free myself and to terminate the contract biding me to West Brom until 2014."
The 35-year-old has not indicated whether he will look to join another club or whether the announcement also marks the end of his playing career.
