Fringe Aston Villa striker Nicklas Helenius is spying an opportunity to stake his claim for a first team spot in light of Christian Benteke's season-ending injury.

The powerful Belgian has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training; he will also miss the World Cup.

And Helenius' agent has explained his client is hoping to now be given the chance to shine, even thought he has a slight injury niggle to work off first.

"There is reason to hope for a chance", Mads Bach Lund told MX.

"Nicklas' own goal is to clear himself up for the match against Crystal Palace, but now of course he should not get too eager and risk a setback."

The 22-year-old striker was snapped up by Aston Villa last summer from Danish outfit AaB.

He has found first team opportunities in the Premier League limited however, with Villa boss Paul Lambert preferring other options.
