Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has expressed his pleasure at the start of the Massimo Cellino era at the club, fired into life today with a 2-0 home win over Blackpool in the Championship.

The win, via two Luke Murphy goals, all but ensures Leeds a spot in next season's Championship, putting the side ten points above the relegation zone with only four games left to play.

Off the pitch, Italian businessman Cellino has succeeded in his purchase of 75 per cent of the Elland Road club and has eased financial concerns which led to the players having to defer part of their March salary.

And McDermott is delighted to look up at the directors' box and see Cellino.

"Thank God we have got Massimo Cellino in charge because I didn't know where this club was going", he told the BBC.

"The fans gave him a really good reception and I am delighted for him.

"We've all got paid and this club feels like a different, more secure place now", McDermott concluded.
