Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone feels that his club can survive in the Premier League this season after a recent string of winning performances.

Gus Poyet’s side bagged four points from their last two games as they held title-contenders Manchester City to a 2-2 draw and defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge last weekend, ending the Black Cats’ run of five loses.

The team currently occupy the last spot in the league table, but are just three points behind 17th placed Norwich City, and with four games left for them this season, Mannone feels his side still have a chance of avoiding relegation.

“Everybody thought we were relegated, but we're not”, the Italian shot-stopper told the BBC.

“We gave ourselves a massive chance and now every game is a massive game.

“We take each game one at a time – we need to fight and prepare for these games properly”, the 26-year-old added.

Sunderland will host Cardiff City at the Stadium of Light on Sunday before they travel to Old Trafford for their game against the reigning champions Manchester United. They will also play West Bromwich Albion and Swansea over the coming weekends to decide their fate.
