Fenerbahce boss Ersun Yanal is delighted after his side lifted their 19th Turkish title following a goalless draw against Caykur Rizespor on Sunday.

Currently on 68 points, the Canaries have assumed an unassailable 12-point lead over second placed Gaalatsaray, thereby winning the Super Lig with three games to spare this season.

The Istanbul club will remain unbeaten at home this season if they come out on top against Kardemir Karabukspor on 10th May, but the boss is pleased with what the team have already achieved.

“We deserved to win the title because of the football we have played. We have given everything and I'd like to thank my players for their efforts”, Yanal was quoted as saying by UEFA’s site.

“We are so proud to serve this club and this title was very important for us. We were determined to win the league from the off.”

Full-back Gokhan Gonul, who has made 183 league appearances for the club, was also ecstatic after his side lifted the trophy for the first time after the 2011 season.

"It has been a very difficult three years. In that time we have won the Turkish Cup twice and finally we have won the league”, the Turkey international said.

Despite winning the Turkish title, Fenerbahce will not be able to play in the Champions League next year because of being banned from the European tournament by UEFA.
