Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has confirmed that the injury that Alex Mowatt sustained against Birmingham City is not as serious as initially believed.

Leeds registered a 3-1 win against Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s on Saturday.

Mowatt came on for Luke Murphy in the 57th minute, but suffered a knee injury and looked in extreme pain while he was carried off from the field on a stretcher.

"Alex took a blow to his knee and thankfully it's not serious", McDermott told the club’s official site.

"We'll keep assessing him, but it's a relief for everyone."

Mowatt has responded well to the treatment he has received since that game and further scans on the injury have been deemed unnecessary.

The 19-year-old central midfielder has made 29 league appearances for Leeds this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
