Leeds United have not withdrawn from the race to bring in sporting director Nicola Salerno, leaving the Cagliari deal-maker with a straight choice between Elland Road and Serie B champions Palermo.

Salerno will leave Cagliari following the club's sale by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino to former Inter board member Tommaso Giulini; his contract with the Rossoblu expires at the end of this month.

However, while Salerno has appeared poised to join Palermo on a two-year deal, Leeds are still very much in the mix, according to Sky Italia, with Cellino wanting his old employee at Elland Road.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is keen for Salerno to begin building the club's squad for a Serie A campaign next season though.

And the ball is now very firmly in Salerno's court to decide whether to head to Leeds or remain in Sicily and join Palermo.

Salerno had previously suggested he was likely to follow Cellino to Leeds, with the pair enjoying a good working relationship.

A proposal to remain in Sicily though is proving tempting for the deal-maker.
