West Ham co-chairman David Gold is hopeful that striker Enner Valencia will be granted a work permit early next week.

The Hammers have snapped up the Ecuador hitman from Mexican outfit Pachuca, but are waiting for a work permit in order that he can join up with his new team-mates.

And Gold is hopeful that Valencia will be in a West Ham shirt sooner rather than later.

Asked via his Twitter account about the work permit application, the co-chairman said: "Hopefully it will be issued early next week."

And questioned on when Valencia can expect to link up with his new team-mates, who are currently on a pre-season tour in New Zealand, Gold answered: "As soon as he receives his work permit."
