Napoli need Manchester United to slash the price of midfielder Marouane Fellaini if they are to have any chance of taking him to Italy in the current transfer window.

The Azzurri have been assessing the feasibility of signing the Belgian, the club's sporting director reportedly spotted with Fellaini and two agents in Belgium earlier this week.

But Manchester United are looking for €25m for the man they snapped up from Everton last summer for €34.5m, a sum Napoli are not prepared to pay.

According to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Rafael Benitez's men are looking for a big discount on Fellaini, while the player's wages are then also expected to present a problem.

At present the chances of Fellaini moving to last season's Coppa Italia winners look slim, though Napoli would gladly sign him on a season-long loan.

That though is not on the cards at Old Trafford, with only a permanent sale considered.

Manchester United also have no need to sell Fellaini to fund incoming transfers, another reason for pessimism in Italy.
