Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he is open to buying before the transfer window closes, but only if he can find players of the quality he believes will improve his squad.

Wenger's men beat Besiktas 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium last night to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for the 17th successive season.

The Arsenal manager has lost two key players of late however, selling defender Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona and losing striker Olivier Giroud to injury until the new year.

And he has been linked with moving into the transfer market as a result, ahead of the closure of the summer window on Monday night.

It is something he is prepared to do, but only if he can land the right player.

"We are open for any position as long as we feel that the player can strengthen the squad", Wenger said via his club's site.

"Buy to buy, I don't see the purpose of that. If we find the players who we feel can give something to our squad, we will do it in any position.

"We are open but it has to be enough to buy. It has to make sense."

Arsenal are now awaiting their fate in the Champions League group stage, with the draw set to be made later today.
