AC Milan are secretly working on a deal to sign in-demand Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, having not been scared off by the Portuguese club's asking price.
William was extensively scouted by Manchester United last season, with the Red Devils thought to have continued to monitor developments in the Portuguese capital this term.
The midfielder also has serious interest from another English club in the shape of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. The Gunners lodged a bid to sign William in the summer, but saw Sporting Lisbon deem their offer insufficient.
William has a buy-out clause set at €45m in his contract, which has placed Sporting Lisbon in pole position to dictate his future.
The Primeira Liga outfit are thought ready to accept around €35m for William however, a figure which most of the player's suitors will still not meet.
