Hull City boss Steve Bruce has revealed that he did not by Mo Diame to play as a defensive midfielder.

Diame arrived at the KC Stadium from West Ham in the summer and was tipped to continue as a defensive midfielder under Bruce.

However, the former Manchester United defender has unleashed Diame further up the pitch and reaped rewards from doing so, with the midfielder scoring goals, the latest being in Hull's 2-2 draw away at Arsenal yesterday.

And for Bruce, Diame is better off where he can cause opponents genuine trouble.

"I never bought him as a defensive midfielder because every time I had seen him at Wigan and West Ham he had caused problems", Bruce told the BBC.

"Let's hope he keeps on producing."

Diame has so far scored four goals for Hull in five Premier League games, equalling his best ever return in the Premier League.
