Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged his side not to dwell on their past results and instead focus on their upcoming matches if they are to achieve their objectives.
The Gunners suffered an inexplicable 3-1 defeat to French Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at the Emirates Stadium last week which has left the Londoners’ European journey hanging by a thread.
Wenger’s players did make a winning return to Premier League following their Champions League drubbing as they defeated Roberto Martinez’s Everton 2-0 courtesy of a strike in each half by Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosciky on Sunday. The win propelled the Gunners to third in the table.
The Frenchman feels that it is the response after a defeat that shows the character of a team and it becomes vital to recover and start afresh after a loss.
“It is important how you respond when results go against you”, Wenger was quoted as saying by the club site.

He added that his team traditionally do well once they take the lead against their opposition instead of when they chase a result.
“For us it is more comfortable when we go back in front of [our rivals] straight away.”
A mere three points separate third placed Arsenal from sixth placed Liverpool and Wenger feels in the prevailing circumstances it is vital for his team to continue winning and stay in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
“This is a period where every point is vital, so that is why that win was important.
“It’s important that we have continuity in our results.
“Behind us [teams are] chasing, in front of us is not far so it’s just down to the quality of our results.”
Arsenal will look to collect all three points when they play Chris Ramsey’s Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road tonight.
