Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits that finishing in the top four this season is unlikely for his team as it is out of their hands at the moment.
The Reds are fifth in the Premier League table on 57 points, seven points off fourth placed Manchester City, who have played a game more than Rodgers’ men.
With seven games left to play for Liverpool, they are depending on the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United above them to drop points to sneak into the Champions League spots at the end of the season.
Rodgers admits that it has been a disappointing season for the Reds as they are set to miss out on all the objectives they had set at the start of the campaign in August last year.
He conceded that finishing in the top four is looking increasing unlikely for Liverpool because it is out of their hands and they are counting on teams above them to slip up to achieve their goal.

"We have missed out on our goals to win a trophy, we went close but not enough, and the other one was to reach the top four”, Rodgers was quoted as saying by ITV.
"It is going to be difficult but we have to be there and fighting.
"It is a distant possibility, mathematically it could be, but the reliance is not with ourselves.
"You want to rely on yourselves and if you get the points you want to be in there but we have to be there to capitalise if anyone makes a mistake."
Liverpool will look to bag all three points from their away trip to West Brom tomorrow but Baggies boss Tony Pulis is yet to lose a home game in the Premier League to the Reds.
Rodgers is set to become the first Liverpool manager since the 1950s to complete his first three seasons without winning a trophy.
