Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has appeared to sound the death knell on Leeds United's hopes of signing striker Kike on loan today.

Leeds are chasing the Spaniard and have been aiming to close a loan deal for the striker before the emergency loan window closes at 5pm today.

But Karanka, speaking at a press conference today, was asked about whether anyone could arrive or leave, and was quoted as replying by Gazzette Live: "No, not from the first team squad.

"There might be a few loans from the youth team, but the only senior team loan is [Bruno] Zuculini."

Leeds boss Evans has already snapped up one player on loan today, bagging Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt.

But the former Rotherham United manager is up against it to further add to his squad before the loan window slams shut.

So far this season Kike has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Boro, scoring three goals.

Karanka appears determined to keep the striker at the club, as he looks for his side to maintain their strong form.

Middlesbrough currently sit third in the Championship standings.
