Championship outfit Derby County have announced the appointment of Nottingham Forest legend Des Walker as their academy's defensive coach.

Walker will be joined in the academy by another new appointee Craig Short, who is set to provide additional coaching support to the Under-21 side.

The duo will initially join the side on a short-term deal until the end of the 2015/16 season, increasing the strength of the coaching staff at the club.

Walker, who graduated from the Nottingham Forest academy, played for the side in two spells the first one being between 1984 and 1992 and the second one later on from 2002 to 2004.

47-year-old Short on the other hand is one of the Rams' own having played for them between 1992 and 1995.

Derby's academy director Darren Wassall spoke on the club's behalf to express their delight at having managed to add the duo amongst their coaching ranks.

“We’re delighted to welcome Des and Craig to the Academy coaching staff", Wassall told his club's official website.

“Des is someone that has plenty to offer from a defensive point of view across the Academy and Craig, meanwhile, has worked with us previously so we’re well aware of his skills and he is a welcome addition to the Under 21 coaching staff.”
