Italian striker Alberto Paloschi is hoping that his decision to join Swansea City in January will help him to get noticed for selection in the national team.

The Premier League outfit signed the 26-year-old striker from Chievo Verona towards the end of the January window for a fee rumoured to be around the €9m to €10m region.

Paloschi is looking forward to his spell in the Premier League, which he feels is the toughest league in the world, and is already enjoying the top class facilities he has found at the Liberty Stadium.

He has featured in the Italian national team squad, but is yet to earn a cap for the Azzurri, and the forward admits that he wants to impress with Swansea in order to be noticed by Italy.

Paloschi cited the example of Graziano Pelle, whose spell at Southampton earned him a place in the national team squad, and is confident that the current generation of Italian strikers can emulate their predecessors if given an opportunity to gain experience.

Speaking to Inside Futbol, the 26-year-old striker said: “Everybody knows that in England there is the toughest and most exciting league in the world. My first impressions are very positive.

“Swansea have wonderful facilities that in Italy can only be compared to one of the top clubs. I hope Swansea can act as a springboard for the Italy national team. I received call-ups from both Cesare Prandelli and Antonio Conte, but I am still uncapped.

“Some in Italy say that the previous generation of Italian strikers, from Christian Vieiri to Vincenzo Montella to Luca Toni, were better than the current crop. But I say they were given more time to grow and to gain experience.

“Now look at Graziano Pelle. He needed to go abroad to become an international. I hope it will be the same for me.”

Paloschi scored 45 goals in 153 appearances for Chievo, but is yet to score his first goal for Swansea after three outings in the Premier League.
