West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has confirmed that the Hammers will appeal against the red card given to defender Cheikhou Kouyate during his side’s 5-1 win over Championship club Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round of the FA Cup yesterday.
The Senegalese international was given his marching orders in the 75th minute at Ewood Park after he unintentionally collided with defender Adam Henley when they were both chasing a long ball.
Referee Jon Moss was quick to show the 26-year-old a red card for interrupting with a goalscoring opportunity in a controversial dismissal, which was the only blot in an otherwise magnificent outing for Slaven Bilic’s side.
But Gold confirmed that West Ham will not silently accept the decision and will appeal against it, hoping for the decision to be overturned.
“Yes we will appeal Kouyate's red card which we believe was a mistake by the referee I think we have a good chance”, he wrote on Twitter.
