West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has laid down his aim for the rest of the season, after his side scored a narrow 1-0 win over Sunderland at Upton Park.

A Michail Antonio goal in the first half was good enough to earn the maximum points for the home side against the relegation threatened Black Cats, and helped them to move up to sixth in the league table for the time being.

Sunderland did mount some late pressure towards the end of the game, and the Hammers had to defend well to keep the away side at bay during the closing minutes at Upton Park.

Bilic admits that his side lack a little bit of rhythm, which led to a flat performance, but he feels the Hammers were still the better side, despite Sunderland creating a few opportunities towards the end.

The Hammers boss was quoted told West Ham TV: "It was a hard game. We were a bit flat and we didn't notice that before the game because we were buzzing and all that.

"OK, praise to the players because we created the most chances and scored a great goal and hit the post twice.

"Any Premier League side are going to have chances and we minimalised them. We expected them to play like this."

The West Ham manager is not thinking about the club’s final league position this season and insisted that he wants to win as many games as possible until the end of the campaign.

"I'm happy because we have started an important week with three points.

"Our aim is to win as many games as possible and also to entertain people. Where that takes us if we succeed in those aims we'll see.

"We shouldn't be too cute or sexy but if we can keep improving then who knows where we can finish."
