Dimitri Payet has insisted that he is currently living a fairy tale with West Ham United as he feels he is in the best period of his career.

The Frenchman has been in stupendous form since joining the Hammers from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in the summer.

Payet’s 11 goals and as many assists in 30 appearances in all competitions have enabled West Ham to move up to fifth spot in the Premier League, in addition to helping the east London outfit reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester United in April.

The 28-year-old’s good displays prompted France boss Didier Deschamps to include him in his squad for the friendlies against the Netherlands and Russia, with the attacking midfielder playing a vital role in helping his nation to beat the Oranje 3-2 last week.

And Payet, who is also set to feature against Russia on Tuesday, insisted that he is unwilling to rest on his laurels to ensure that he further manages to up his game.

“I think I’m in the best period of my career”, he was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

“I live a fairy tale with my club and if that could transfer into selection [for France] that would be great.

“I will work to ensure that my best years are still in front of me.”
