Liverpool legend Ray Houghton admits he was expecting so much more from the Reds at Anfield against Burnley, after Jurgen Klopp's men were held to a 1-1 draw.

Klopp's side struggled to beat the so called lesser teams in the Premier League last term, but Liverpool fans may worry the problems have not gone away despite the German having the summer transfer window to address the issue following today's result.

Scott Arfield put the Clarets ahead after 27 minutes with a neat finish, before Livepool then levelled matters through Mohamed Salah just three minutes later.

Liverpool had an array of efforts to try to win it as they dominated, but the Reds could even have lost after Joel Matip was forced to clear a Ben Mee header off the line.

It finished 1-1, Liverpool dropping a precious two points, and Houghton admits he was expecting much more from Klopp's side.

"I was expecting so much more, fresh legs, seven new faces from the team that played Sevilla, so tiredness should not have been a problem for them", Houghton said on LFC TV.

"Overall, you are expecting more.

"Going forward with the ability they've [Liverpool] got I expect their 'keeper to be making more saves than he did today."

And Houghton added: "I imagine the stats at goal are quite high, but how many actually troubled the goalkeeper?

"They weren't brilliant chances for the amount of possession we had."

Following a 5-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend, Liverpool have now dropped five points over the course of their last two Premier League games and are five points off top spot in the league standings.
