Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that teenage sensation Phil Foden is ready to play in any competition, but insisted that he will have to fight for his place in the team.

Foden, who won the Golden Ball award during the Under-17 World Cup in India last year, netted his first goal at senior level for Manchester City when he scored in stoppage time against Oxford United in an EFL Cup clash on Tuesday.

The youngster also started the Community Shield clash against Chelsea at the beginning of the season and highlighted his first start since then with a goal and an assist during a 3-1 win at the Kassam Stadium.

The 18-year-old is considered a monumental talent in England and will be aiming for more involvement with the first team as the season gathers pace.

Guardiola went on to claim that Foden is ready to play in any competition but insisted that the youngster will face stiff competition from his team-mates for a place in the starting eleven.

“It is not important if he starts or gets the last few minutes, he is part of the squad”, Guardiola told reporters in a press conference.

"He is ready to play and is ready to play in any competition and in any game, but he has to compete with his team-mates, but he is ready."

Manchester City have now enjoyed back to back wins after their disappointment against Lyon in the Champions League and will now face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.
