The 29-year-old midfielder is in the final year of his contract with Liverpool and he is yet to agree on a new deal with the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool are keen to keep him at the club but talks between his representatives and the club are yet to find a definitive solution over his future at Anfield.

A move away from Liverpool has not been ruled out for the Dutchman and it has been claimed that a transfer to Barcelona could be a real possibility.

According to Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad, new Barcelona coach Koeman has asked the club to consider signing Wijnaldum this summer.

The midfielder’s contract situation is being tracked by Barcelona and he could be available on a cut-price fee in the ongoing transfer window.

It has been claimed that Koeman, who managed Wijnaldum in the Netherlands team, has asked the player to not sign a new contract with Liverpool.

The new Barcelona boss is keen to make sure that Wijnaldum is part of his squad at the start of his reign at the Nou Camp.
