Bale could finally be on his way out of Real Madrid after falling out of favour, with coach Zinedine Zidane not counting on the Welshman.

The winger’s agent has indicated that Tottenham are trying to sign him and the player wants to return to his former club before next month’s transfer deadline.

It is still unclear whether the deal would be a loan or a transfer, but Real Madrid would have to pay a major share of his wages as part of any agreement.

Tottenham are the favourites to sign him at the moment, but according to Spanish daily AS, Real Madrid have not counted out Manchester United as a destination.

Manchester United have long held an interest in Bale since he left Spurs from Real Madrid and were close to doing a deal in 2018.

But Jadon Sancho has remained their top target despite the protracted nature of the negotiations with Borussia Dortmund.

They may only consider doing a deal for Bale late in the window should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fail to sign the 20-year-old England winger.

Tottenham are working on getting the deal done soon and talks are ongoing between the Spurs, Real Madrid and Bale’s agent.

Bale’s pursuit is claimed to be driven by more Daniel Levy than a specific request from Jose Mourinho.
