Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back the ongoing window and have opened talks with Inter over a deal for Milan Skriniar.

The north London outfit have also lined up Benfica’s 23-year-old Portuguese centre-half Dias as an alternative to the Slovakia international.

However, Spurs have received a setback in their pursuit of the young centre-back as Benfica president Vieira has blocked any possible transfer for the player this year, according to Portuguese sports daily Record.

The 71-year-old is not even willing to listen to proposals for Dias, serving a heavy blow to Jose Mourinho’s side if they fail to agree a deal for Skriniar.

With Vieira’s stance now proving to be a huge stumbling block, Tottenham may now look for another alternative to Skriniar.

Spurs face challenges in their pursuit of the Slovakian as Inter want a sum of €60m for him.

The London-based club are claimed to value the centre-back at 50 per cent less than the Serie A side’s asking price.
