Emerson has dropped down the pecking order at Chelsea under Frank Lampard since last season and has not played a single minute of Premier League football in the ongoing campaign.

He has only made a Premier League matchday squad just once and Chelsea are prepared to let him go in the January transfer window if the right deal is offered.

Emerson is still being picked by Italy and he admits that he enjoys joining the national team as he gets to play football. However, the message from Mancini is clear – he needs to play regularly at club level.

The defender was quoted as saying by Italian outlet LaRoma24.it: “Here in the national team I play, I have fun and I am fine.

“The coach told me that the best solution is to play more at Chelsea or somewhere else.

Let’s wait for the next two months and see what happens.”

Emerson conceded that he is prepared to move on if things do not  improve at Chelsea but has refused to guarantee that he will return to Italy in January if he moves on from Stamford Bridge.

“Unfortunately, I am not playing at Chelsea but I am calm, I think things can improve in London or in another place.

“There was some interest in me [in the last window] but nothing concrete.

“I would like to return to Italy but I can’t say if it will happen in January or in the next five years.”

The 26-year-old has a contract at Chelsea which runs until 2022.
