The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has been on the radar of top clubs since last year and has been tipped to move on from Gladbach sooner rather than later.

His representatives have been in talks with Bayern Munich, who are considering taking him to Bavaria in the next summer transfer window.

Zakaria has also been on the radar of Manchester City and they are also looking at him as an option from next season onwards.

And according to Sky Deutschland, the midfielder himself is keen to move on from Gladbach at the end of the season.

Zakaria wants a fresh start somewhere else and feels that he is ready to play for a bigger club on a bigger stage.

But any potential transfer is hinging on the player proving his fitness over the course of the second half of the season.

Zakaria sustained a serious knee injury in March and has not been in action since then for Gladbach.

He recently returned to training but is still not fit enough to again get on the pitch for the Bundesliga outfit.

His suitors are monitoring his fitness closely and will watch how well he returns to action in the second half of the season.
