The Premier League giants signed four players in the recent transfer window, three of them on deadline day, and managed to sell Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted more signings and to move on more of the deadwood from his squad, but the club failed to do so.

They refused to let Sergio Romero join Everton towards the end of the window and struggled to find takers for Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.

And it has been claimed that moving the trio on is the priority for Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Romero and Rojo have been left out of their Premier League and Champions League squads and Phil Jones is yet to recover from knee surgery.

Manchester United are looking for clubs who would be willing to sign the trio, which would further allow them to trim the wage bill.

Rojo has not been part of a Manchester United matchday squad in over a year and Romero is the victim of Dean Henderson becoming the number 2 goalkeeper to David de Gea this season.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah could also look for a new club in January as he is considering his future at Manchester United as well.
