The 21-year-old is highly rated at Napoli and the Serie A giants swooped to snap him up from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in the summer of 2019, on a deal which could reach €19m.

Elmas’ performances in Napoli colours have caught the eye of several European clubs in the likes of Portuguese giants Benfica along with the German duo Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.

And according to RAI sports journalist Ciro Venerato, speaking on Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Premier League outfit Leeds were amongst the clubs that were unsuccessful in a swoop for the player.

Leeds are claimed to have slapped in a €25m bid to lure Elmas to Elland Road, but Napoli knocked back the offer as the starlet is considered as an integral asset to their team.

The Macedonian is happy at his current club and was not prepared to leave the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Leeds were unsuccessful in their efforts to add a midfielder to their squad over the course of the last transfer window, but Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa could again look to the transfer talent pool with the January window rapidly approaching.

It remains to be seen if Elmas is still considered a potential target by the Yorkshire giants if new midfield additions are on the transfer agenda at Elland Road.
